Things to Know...THE RULES

1) Sign ups are required
This kind of goes without saying. ;)

Co-authors ARE allowed, but you will both be required to officially sign-up (stating in your sign up comment who you are co-writing with) and join the community.

2) Stories MUST be a Hewligan pairing
This is the Hewligan Big Bang, so your stories should focus on a Hewligan pairing (any David Hewlett character paired with any Joe Flanigan character). ANY Hewligan pairing is acceptable - including RPS.

3)NO incest or underage sex
For the purposes of this challenge, pairing two characters played by the same actor is going to fall under incest, as well as pairing two characters who are not blood related but were raised together as brother and sister (or brother & brother, sister & sister), and anyone under 18 will be considered under age. To clarify, this doesn't mean you can't write stories WITH people under 18 IN them, they just can't be having sex. ;)

4) You must have written a story that was at least 5000 words
And it must have been posted somewhere online before you can sign up.

5) Your story MUST be betaed by TWO people
I know this might be an issue for some people however, this is an absolute must. We will be having a sign up post for people offering their mad betaing skillz and you can find betas there, or, if you prefer you can use your own betas. Please be sure that the betas you are using really ARE betas, not just friends cheering you on.

You should, at the absolute minimum, have a beta that will check your spelling and your grammar. Someone to check your continuity, plot and characterization would be wonderful too, but for the purposes of this challenge, the minimum I am asking is that you have someone beta your story for any spelling/grammar mistakes. To qualify for one of the betas from this community, your story must have at least 7500 words written before you can ask for one of our betas.

6) ART!
You will ONLY be guaranteed art for your story if you have, on the day of the draft deadline, a COMPLETE but unpolished first draft of your story ready to be given to your assigned artist so that they can begin work on whatever they are inspired to create after reading your story.

A complete draft means that the story is whole but just needs some cosmetic work to it such as cleaning up a bit of dialogue or making a few scenes sharper. It does not mean that you can go back and do major changes to the plot. What you send to your artist should be almost exactly what you will be posting on the final deadline.

If you do not have a COMPLETE first draft ready for the deadline, we cannot guarantee you will get any art for your story.

7) You must WATCH the community
I post updates to time lines, check-in posts for authors/artists etc. on the community so you MUST add the community to your watch list.

2010 Beta Readers

This is the beta reader post. If you want to offer your mad betaing skillz up for this challenge, please copy and paste the following into a comment.

Some authors will already have their own betas and that is fine, however every author is required to have their story betaed by TWO people so some may require an additional beta.

Betas are allowed to sign up to beta no more than TWO Big Bang stories (an exception will be made if the people you are betaing for finish early and you want to help out).

In order to get a beta through this post, you must have written at least 7500 words on your story before asking for one.

How long will it take you to beta a 20,000+ word story?

** Let us know if there are only certain Hewligan pairings you're willing to read - you can also put any/all if that is the case.

2010 CHEERLEADERS

If you're interested in signing up to be a cheerleader, basically someone willing to cheer on an author through any rough patches - reading some snippets and whatnot and offering support and encouragement (NO editing, this is not betaing), then copy and paste the following into a comment.

The GUIDELINES

Guidelines for participation.

READ BEFORE SIGNING UP!!

1) Stories must be a minimum of 20,000 words.

2a) Your story must be betaed by at least TWO people. You can find betas on our BETA POST, or you can use your own. At the very least your story must be betaed for both spelling and grammar mistakes.

2b) Betas will not be allowed to accept betaing duties for more than TWO stories in this challenge.

2c) Before you can ask one of the betas in our beta post to be your beta, you must have written at least 7500 words of your story so as not to tie up betas before you've really even gotten into the story.

3) Your story cannot have appeared anywhere else on the internet before. If you're thinking about expanding a shorter story (a couple thousand words) that you've written and posted, you may do so but you MUST remove that story from the internet during the challenge. In this case, the story you are planning to expand, cannot be more than 3000 words.

4) You cannot post your story anywhere online until ONE WEEK after the stories and art have gone live.

5) There will be prompts given by the mods and we will be accepting prompts from anyone interested in throwing out some ideas (as comments in the prompt post). You are free to choose one of these prompts, OR, you can simply come up with your own idea (as long as they follow RULE #3).

6) All stories are to be HEWLIGAN. You can have other pairings, but the focus should be on your Hewligan pairing.

7) You must have written a story that was at least 5000 words (and posted it) to take part.

8) In regards to presentation -

* Do not indent your paragraphs
* Put a space between paragraphs
* When attempting to stress a word, use bold or italics, NOT asterisks. Example: Rodney hates lemons. (GOOD) Rodney *hates* lemons. (BAD)
* No sparkly, flashing, huge or otherwise abnormal fonts (I will be choosing the font type, color and size for the website, so your story/art shouldn't have any type of font coding).
* Please code your stories for italics, bolding, underlining, centering and paragraphs before sending in your completed story.
* ALL stories and art should include a detailed header.
* Art pieces should also have a teaser pic (300 pixels x 150 pixels exactly).

9) WARNINGS
If your story contains non-con/dub-con, rape, heavy kink, character death/suicide, gore, excessive violence, partner betrayal, or abuse, you MUST include warnings. If you feel warning for these things will somehow take away from your story, I will add a color bar to hide the warnings for those that do not wish to see them, or you can include the warnings at the bottom of your story with a note in the header that they can be found there, but they MUST be included for those that could be triggered by these things.

So, if we haven't scared you away, this is what you need to do to sign-up.

Check out the Author Sign-up post HERE.

To easily add paragraph tags when coding your story:

When using WORD, go to the Find/Replace menu (in Edit). In the "find" box put in ^p^p and in the "replace" box put in <*/*p>^p^p<*p*> (remove the *s). This should add the paragraph tags (opening and closing tags) to each of your paragraphs. You will just need to remove the closing tag on your first paragraph. :)

Here is a screencap from sgamadison to show you what your find/replace box should look like.

Prompt Suggestions

Offer up any suggestions you have for Hewligan prompts for this challenge.

I will compile the prompt suggestions and add them to the prompts the mods come up with to create the actual prompt post from which prospective authors will be able to choose from. Please be sure to include the show/movie your prompt is for (along with the Hewligan character names).

Anyone is free to offer prompt suggestions. You don't have to be planning to take part to offer prompts you'd like to see written. :)
